ROME, Monday, May 14, 2012 ( ZENIT.org .) - Yesterday, May 13, in the "March for Life" in Rome, there were a lot more than we had expected. From the Colosseum to Castel Sant'Angelo, many thousands of people we wanted to give a proof of love for little ones who can not defend themselves. Young and old, families, lay people, priests and nuns, many Italian and foreign, we sang, prayed, testified for them. And we also enjoyed a nice walk in one morning of sunshine and fresh air.

It was announced the date for next year: Sunday, May 12, in Rome. And in all this year, do not march anymore?

But of course! The March for Life there was only yesterday. The March for Life is now! Let's face every morning, when we start our day's work, study, social or political commitment, prayer ... I'm going to march for life! On these fundamental values ​​is the categorical imperative: marching or rot.

Bearing in mind that there are many ways to march for life.

Yesterday afternoon I read on some online site of the criticism against those who did not go to the Colosseum, I also read harsh criticism against persons or groups who participated in it (and I'm not referring to the criticisms and attacks by rabid feminists and secularists who indignant because someone is not satisfied on a voluntary and legalized killing of innocent children. These critics and these attacks are already in the estimate of costs to be paid).

In the great "people of life" (as a large underground river, which emerged yesterday in Rome is just a small stream), there are many "gifts" different. A bit like going with the orders and religious congregations. Active or contemplative life, dedication to the poor or campus ministry, service to the sick or the training of the boys ... Nor there for everyone. Because the needs and possibilities are ever more of what you can do.

There is much to do in the defense and promotion of life umata, on many different fronts! It seems to me a lot of good that there are commitments, different sensitivity settings and in people's lives. Some - individuals or groups - we operate mainly in the academic, training generations of bioethicists lovers of human life in all its conditions, while others will spend every day in hospitality and assistance to mothers in trouble, there are those who committed for life in society and politics with a nondenominational approach, while others activate prayer groups to pray for grace and forgiveness of the Lord of life.

There are also various methods and strategies, which may be complementary. According to some it is appropriate to let everyone know about the reality of abortion methods, even with the raw images (because it is the raw reality): Sometimes I am convinced that they themselves have understood and changed through those images, while others prefer to distribute only the beauty generous maternity positive, there are those who show the evil that causes abortion in many women, and those who speak evil - death - caused to unborn children.

There are even room for different positions on some debatable issues. For example, on how to intervene in the political and legislative. We must be aware that this is extremely complex problems in which the virtue of prudence should reign. That fundamental virtue that responds to a sincere desire to "do well good." Without it, we run the risk of causing serious damage even if driven by the most sublime impulse of Christian charity. We all have groped to avoid doing evil good (already there are many that are good to evil).

Among the eight components of Prudence reported by Thomas d'Aquino is also the "Docilitas": that humility which leads us to sincerely listen to the opinion of others, to seek advice and question their own view of things, before acting .

Saturday, May 12 five hundred people attended an interesting scientific conference on the defense of human life in our Ateneo Regina Apostolorum. Sunday, May 13 thousands have sung through the streets of Rome. Next Sunday, May 20, thousands will gather in the Paul VI at the Vatican, for the important event titled: "One of us". And while we were in conference on Saturday, the EU Commission has granted permission to collect signatures for the recognition of human dignity from conception. An initiative of the organizers of the meeting next Sunday.

There is something for everyone. Everyone doing their part, according to his "charisma". And if we can find some concrete steps together for the better. Remembering always the urgent request of Jesus to his disciples, coincidentally, just yesterday in the Gospel: "This I command you, that way you love one another" (Gg 15, 17).

It would be nice if next year we could all march together for a cause so great and urgent. But even more important is that we walk every day on the road of defending life. Because the real March for Life, is today!
