Description

From June 28th to July 9th, 2010 will be held on the 9th Summer School Update in Bioethics organized by the Faculty.
Theme: "Bioethics and Communication: A Challenge for the third millennium."
The course is addressed to all those interested in the world of Bioethics, professionals in health and any other field. It is directed especially to those who are interested in communication and information; in particular in health and bioethics. Students already enrolled in the license or doctorate at our athenaeum can attend it too.

You can take the complete course or one of the two modules:

Module 1: Social communication and bioethics (06/28 - 07/02)

Module 2: Bioethics in the Mass media (07/05 - 07/09)

Under the program of Continuing Medical Education (CME) of the Italian Ministry of Health who participates in an advanced universitarian course is exempt from acquiring CME credits for the current year.

General Information

 

Bioethics & Media:

The topics belong to the public interest. The media deals with them almost every day, however, it does not mean  that the information is shown in the best way. These topics are often complex, difficult and become part of a sensitive debate.
It is important to recognize that the correctness is an imperative in the communication. Even more if we talk about issues in regard to bioethics, it becomes a moral urgency not only for the communication also for the society.
Nowadays those involved in bioethics know the necessity to communicate effectively with the public and it refers the importance to use all the mass media resources available.


Main objectives:

The course has three main objectives:

1 - To get a deeper understanging in the "world of communication and information": its impact, dynamic mechanisms and strategies.
2 - To analyze how media present the issues of bioethics.
3 - To know the tools available to effectively communicate their ideas on bioethics.

Activity and dynamics:

To achieve the objectives the course is structured according to the following activities:

1 - Magisterial lessons from experts in mass communication and / or bioethics.
2 - Analysis how some bioethical issues are communicated by the media.
3 - Practical workshops on the effective use of some tools of communication.
4 - Exercises in technical communication: debates, interviews, movies ...

Workshops

 

Throughout the course, 5 practical workshops will take place. The purpose of these activities is to give some communication's tools in order to increase the experience in comunicating and get a practical use of them.
Each student must register from the beginning to one of the following laboratories:

1. Internet: the creation and management of sites, creation and participation in blogs, effective use of social networks (facebook. ..), etc..
2. Newspapers: how to get published a letter to the Director; articles and editorials; effective communication through the media.
3. Verbal communication: the resources of modern rhetoric, bottom, form and diction, conference, lecture, debate, interview, etc..
4. The audiovisual media: concept and realization of a movie, the tools available and their use, from Youtube to TV, etc..
5. Advertising and promotion: design and production of brochures, posters, newsletters, etc.. for the promotion of institutions, conferences, etc.., dissemination and promotion campaigns.


Credits and Exams

 

1. Students of the School of Bioethics: Students for a license or a doctorate in Bioethics already enrolled  in the School may register for the Summer Course (abbreviations: CCE001 and CE002, respectively the first and second form). Participation in this course will  be credited, if it is passed the written test corresponding to their academic curriculum with 3 credits for each module.
2. CME credits for health personnel: Under the program of Continuing Medical Education, the Ministry of Health, who participated in a course of further education (such as the Summer Course) is exempt from acquiring the CME credits for the year course.

At the end of each module will be a written test.

* Note about Groups: In order to obtain the discounts for groups, a group leader must be indicated to the Registrar's Office of the University: a letter to the group with the names of the components required documents for registration of each member.
